Position Overview

A growing environmental and industrial hygiene consulting practice is seeking an experienced Industrial Hygienist / Senior Consultant for a high-autonomy role based in the Chicagoland area. This position is ideal for a consultant who can independently manage projects, develop client relationships, and deliver high-quality technical work across indoor air quality, asbestos, and exposure-related services.

You'll have the opportunity to own your projects from start to finish while working within a collaborative environment that provides strong technical support and operational infrastructure.


What You Will Do

  • Manage projects from proposal through field execution, reporting, and closeout
  • Perform asbestos inspections and related services in commercial, residential, and industrial settings
  • Conduct asbestos air sampling and clearance monitoring in accordance with regulatory standards
  • Evaluate indoor environmental quality (IEQ) and occupational health concerns across a range of facility types
  • Lead microbial and moisture intrusion investigations, including moisture mapping, IR scanning, and sampling strategies
  • Perform exposure monitoring (e.g., RCS, VOCs, particulates, metals) using area and personal sampling methods
  • Interpret analytical data and develop clear, defensible recommendations aligned with applicable standards
  • Prepare technical reports, remediation protocols, and project documentation
  • Communicate findings and recommendations to clients with clarity and professionalism
  • Maintain and calibrate field equipment and instrumentation
  • Support repeat business and client relationship development
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to QA/QC and technical best practices as the role evolves

Required Qualifications

  • Illinois Asbestos Building Inspector license (required)
  • Illinois Asbestos Air Sampling Professional license, or ability to obtain within 90 days
  • 3+ years of consulting experience in industrial hygiene, asbestos, IAQ, or related services
  • Experience with microbial/moisture intrusion investigations and remediation planning
  • Hands-on experience with occupational exposure monitoring (e.g., RCS, VOCs, particulates, metals)
  • Ability to independently manage field work, sampling strategies, client communication, and reporting
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, NIOSH, EPA, IICRC (S500/S520/S700), ASHRAE, and related guidance
  • Strong technical writing skills and ability to produce client-ready deliverables
  • Professional communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard reporting workflows
  • Ability to perform field work (climbing, lifting equipment, confined access, uneven terrain, etc.)
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Illinois Lead Inspector and/or Lead Risk Assessor (strongly preferred)
  • Illinois Radon Measurement Professional or Technician license
  • Professional certifications such as CIH, CSP, PE, CHMM, or similar
  • Experience with building envelope or HVAC/ventilation assessments
  • Experience developing asbestos abatement designs or bid specifications
  • Prior mentorship, QA/QC review, or team leadership experience
  • Existing client relationships or interest in business development
