Position Title: Senior Transportation Engineer - Roadway/Highway Design

Location: Irvine, CA
Salary Range: $130,000 - $175,000
Employment Type: Full-Time


Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior Transportation Engineer to lead and manage roadway and highway design projects within our growing infrastructure team. This role is ideal for a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with a strong background in transportation engineering and a passion for delivering innovative, high-quality solutions across a variety of public and private sector projects.

As a key member of our transportation group, you will oversee the geometric design of roadways and highways, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the successful execution of complex infrastructure projects. You will also play a pivotal role in quality assurance, business development, and client engagement.


Key Responsibilities

  • Project Leadership & Technical Oversight

    • Lead the roadway/highway geometric design team on a wide range of transportation infrastructure projects.
    • Coordinate with internal teams including structural, drainage, traffic, and environmental disciplines to ensure cohesive project delivery.
    • Oversee the preparation and review of 3D models, design calculations, construction quantities, and cost estimates.
    • Ensure compliance with applicable design standards, codes, and client requirements.
  • Quality Assurance & Design Review

    • Conduct and participate in internal quality control and design review processes.
    • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
    • Ensure accuracy, constructability, and efficiency in all design deliverables.
  • Client Engagement & Business Development

    • Support business development initiatives by contributing to proposal development, including technical write-ups and scope definition.
    • Participate in client meetings, presentations, and project interviews.
    • Help identify new project opportunities and assist in expanding client relationships.
  • Project Management Support

    • Monitor project budgets, schedules, and deliverables to ensure timely and cost-effective completion.
    • Collaborate with project managers to track progress, manage risks, and resolve technical challenges.
    • Maintain clear and consistent communication with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in transportation engineering, with a strong focus on roadway and highway design.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain licensure within six (6) months of hire.
  • Demonstrated expertise in geometric design principles, roadway modeling, and transportation infrastructure planning.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard design software, including:
    • Bentley ProjectWise
    • MicroStation
    • InRoads
    • Open-Roads Designer
    • Auto-CAD Civil 3D

Preferred Skills & Attributes

  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with DOT standards and procedures (e.g., Caltrans, AASHTO).
  • Experience with public sector transportation projects, including federal, state, and municipal clients.
