Senior Test Engineer

Job Title: Senior Test Engineer - Power Systems & Energy Storage

Location: Perth, WA

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Test Engineer to serve as the final authority on the performance, safety, and reliability of advanced power‑electronics and energy‑storage systems. This role is hands‑on, technically challenging, and essential to ensuring that all systems deployed into mining, remote operations, industrial facilities, and critical infrastructure meet the highest engineering standards.

You will lead system‑level testing activities, diagnose complex technical issues, collaborate closely with engineering teams, and continuously improve testing methods and processes. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in high‑voltage environments, understands systems at a fundamental level, and takes ownership of reliability.

Key Responsibilities

1. System‑Level Testing & Validation

  • Lead testing of AC & DC UPS systems, lithium‑ion battery systems, hybrid/renewable‑integrated systems, and power‑conversion platforms.
  • Perform Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), full system integration tests, dynamic/transient tests, and reliability simulations.

2. Advanced Fault Finding

  • Diagnose complex faults across: inverters, rectifiers, DC‑DC converters, BMS, protection systems, and power‑conversion equipment.
  • Identify true root causes and collaborate with engineering teams to implement long‑term fixes.

3. Reliability Engineering

  • Predict and test for potential failure modes prior to field deployment.
  • Stress‑test systems under load variation, transient conditions, and edge‑case scenarios suited for mining and remote applications.

4. Safety & Compliance

  • Work safely with high‑voltage DC systems (up to 1000V DC) and three‑phase AC systems.
  • Enforce lockout/tagout, isolation, and HV safety procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant Australian standards and internal IMS procedures.

5. Test Process Development

  • Improve, standardise, and document testing processes for repeatability and quality assurance.
  • Support automation of test procedures and development of digital test‑record systems.
  • Reduce test cycle time while maintaining uncompromised safety and reliability.

6. Occasional Field Support

  • Assist with commissioning, troubleshooting, and technical analysis at customer sites when required.

7. General Duties

  • Maintain a safe, tidy, and organised testing area.
  • Participate in continuous improvement, hazard reporting, and IMS development.

Qualifications & Experience

Required Technical Competencies

  • Strong, practical knowledge of power electronics (inverters, rectifiers, converters, switching behaviour, harmonics).
  • Experience with lithium‑ion battery systems, BMS, SoC/SoH, and thermal safety.
  • Solid understanding of 3‑phase AC systems, protection components, and load types.
  • Proficiency with oscilloscopes, power analysers, load banks, and electrical test equipment.
  • Background in UPS systems, battery storage, industrial power electronics, mining power systems, or related industries.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please do not hesitate to get in touch! The client is also open to candidates outside of Australia who are willing to relocate to Perth.
