Senior Overhead Transmission Line Engineer
Overview
An established, employee-owned engineering consulting firm with a long-standing reputation in infrastructure, energy, and utility projects is seeking a Senior Transmission Line Engineer to support complex overhead transmission projects across North America. This role offers the opportunity to work on large-scale transmission line programs, including high-voltage AC and HVDC systems, while serving as a technical leader within a growing power delivery practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the design and analysis of overhead transmission line projects.
- Lead or contribute to large-scale rebuild, expansion, and greenfield transmission projects, including voltages up to 765kV and HVDC applications.
- Perform engineering calculations, structural analyses, and technical evaluations in accordance with industry standards.
- Develop recommendations for transmission structures, foundations, materials, and equipment.
- Manage project scope, budgets, schedules, and quality requirements.
- Review and provide technical guidance to engineers and designers.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships while supporting project execution and business development efforts.
- Serve as a technical specialist and subject matter expert for complex transmission line challenges.
- Mentor junior engineers and support technical development within the team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Extensive experience with overhead transmission line design, ideally within the 69kV to 500kV range.
- Proficiency with industry-standard transmission design software such as PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and related tools.
- Strong understanding of structural engineering principles related to utility transmission systems.
- Experience designing steel transmission structures and associated foundations.
- Working knowledge of structural steel and reinforced concrete design using 3D analysis software.
- Demonstrated client-facing experience and strong relationship-building skills.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
- 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.
- Experience supporting or leading utility-scale transmission line projects.
- Ability to successfully complete applicable pre-employment screening requirements.
