Role Overview
You will be responsible for supporting the structural design and analysis of new construction and projects, primarily in New York City. You will work under the guidance of senior engineers and project managers, contributing to all phases of design - from schematic concepts through construction administration. This role requires a strong foundation in structural engineering principles, excellent problem-solving skills, and a proactive, team-oriented mindset.
Key Responsibilities
Perform structural analysis and design of concrete and steel building systems in compliance with NYC Building Code
Prepare detailed design calculations, construction drawings, and specifications
Coordinate with architects, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure integrated and constructible designs
Conduct site visits, inspections, and field assessments as needed
Assist in reviewing shop drawings, RFIs, and submittals during construction
Participate in internal design reviews and quality control processes
Stay current with industry trends, materials, and technologies relevant to structural engineering
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited institution
3-7 years of structural design experience on building projects located in New York City (this is a strict requirement)
EIT certification required
PE license preferred, or actively pursuing licensure within the next 12 months
Strong technical knowledge of structural systems, including reinforced concrete, structural steel, and foundation systems
Proficiency in structural analysis and modeling software such as ETABS, SAP2000, RAM Structural System, RISA, or STAAD
Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or Revit for drafting and coordination
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Preferred Attributes
Experience working with NYC DOB filing processes and local permitting requirements
Familiarity with special inspections and construction-phase engineering support
Interest in mentoring junior staff and contributing to a positive team culture
