The Role: Forensic Project Manager

Overview:
The firm is seeking an experienced Forensic/Investigative Engineer to lead complex diagnostic projects from their Illinois office. This is a high-impact role focused on uncovering the root causes of structural failures and construction defects, and delivering expert analysis that informs insurance claims, litigation, and remediation strategies.

You'll work closely with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders to produce authoritative reports and provide expert testimony. This position is ideal for a seasoned engineer who thrives on problem-solving and wants to make a tangible impact in the built environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead on-site forensic investigations of structural failures, material degradation, and construction defects.
  • Perform root cause analysis using field data, design documents, and specifications.
  • Author comprehensive technical reports and expert opinions for legal and insurance audiences.
  • Collaborate with attorneys, insurers, and remediation teams to guide resolution strategies.
  • Serve as an expert witness in depositions and trials when needed.
  • Contribute to business development through client engagement, proposal writing, and thought leadership.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master's preferred).
  • Active Structural Engineer (SE) license
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Chicago or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in structural engineering, with exposure to forensic investigations or a strong interest in transitioning into this specialty.
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and technical writing skills.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis software and field inspection tools.
  • Willingness to travel regionally for site investigations.
