Position: Substation Commissioning Specialist (Remote, Travel Required)
Location: Remote (Up to 75% travel across the U.S.)
Overview:
A well-established engineering firm is seeking an experienced Substation Commissioning Specialist to support mission-critical infrastructure projects, particularly in data center environments. This role involves overseeing the commissioning of electrical substations, ensuring systems are tested, validated, and compliant with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Commissioning & Testing (50%)
Conduct on-site inspections, functional testing, and troubleshooting of substation components (e.g., transformers, relays, breakers). Lead vendor coordination and participate in factory witness testing.Planning & Documentation (35%)
Develop commissioning plans, test scripts, and checklists. Review design documents and assist in commissioning-focused design reviews. Prepare progress and final reports for stakeholders.Project Support (15%)
Manage project timelines, risks, and team mobilization. Communicate effectively with clients and internal teams.
Requirements:
- 7+ years of experience in substation commissioning, including hands-on testing of transformers, relays, breakers, and SCADA systems.
- Strong knowledge of protection and control systems.
- Proficiency in MS Office and ability to work independently in a remote setting.
- Willingness to travel frequently; must reside near a major airport.
- Ability to obtain NFPA70E/OSHA certifications if required.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with Omicron test equipment.
- Background in utility or large-scale industrial electrical systems.
- Familiarity with AI tools to enhance workflow efficiency.
Physical Demands:
Ability to work in varied environments, lift up to 50 lbs, and access equipment via stairs or ladders.
