Survey Crew Chief
The Survey Crew Chief is responsible for leading field survey operations, ensuring accurate data collection and efficient workflow. This role requires strong technical expertise in land surveying and a working knowledge of CAD software to support drafting and data processing. The ideal candidate will have leadership experience in the field and the ability to bridge field data with office deliverables.
Key Responsibilities:
Field Operations
- Lead and coordinate daily activities of the survey crew.
- Perform boundary, topographic, construction, and control surveys.
- Operate and maintain survey equipment including GPS, total stations, and data collectors.
- Ensure field data is collected accurately and efficiently.
Data Management & CAD Integration
- Process field data and prepare it for drafting and analysis.
- Collaborate with CAD technicians and engineers to ensure data compatibility.
- Assist in drafting survey plats, maps, and legal descriptions using CAD software (AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred).
Team Leadership
- Train and mentor junior crew members.
- Ensure safety protocols are followed on-site.
- Communicate effectively with project managers and office staff.
Quality & Compliance
- Verify accuracy of field data and ensure compliance with project specifications.
- Maintain detailed field notes and documentation.
- Adhere to local, state, and federal surveying regulations.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in land surveying, with at least 1 year in a crew chief role.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar CAD software.
- Strong understanding of survey principles, equipment, and procedures.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with Trimble or Leica survey equipment.
- Familiarity with GIS and drone-based surveying.
- Ability to interpret construction plans and legal documents.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
