Transportation Drainage Engineer, PE | St. Petersburg
Overview
We are seeking a Drainage Project Engineer to support the planning, analysis, and design of transportation infrastructure projects throughout Florida. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of drainage design efforts, mentor junior staff, and work closely with project managers on complex FDOT and municipal projects.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience with hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, stormwater management design, and transportation drainage systems.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the lead drainage engineer on transportation projects from concept through final design.
- Develop roadway drainage, stormwater management, floodplain, and hydraulic designs.
- Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses utilizing software such as ICPR, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and PondPack.
- Prepare drainage calculations, engineering reports, permit packages, and construction plans.
- Coordinate with roadway, bridge, traffic, utilities, environmental, and permitting teams.
- Support project managers with scope development, scheduling, budgeting, and client coordination.
- Review work completed by junior engineers and provide technical mentorship.
- Ensure compliance with FDOT criteria, local agencies, water management districts, and regulatory requirements.
- Attend client meetings and assist with technical presentations and project discussions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- 4-8+ years of drainage engineering experience.
- FDOT project experience strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with ICPR, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, PondPack, or similar drainage modeling software.
- Experience with OpenRoads Designer (ORD).
- Working knowledge of stormwater permitting and drainage design standards.
- Strong technical writing, communication, and organizational skills.

- Floodplain compensation and FEMA-related studies.
- Water management district permitting.
