Water Resources Engineer
Our client, a respected and mission-driven environmental consulting and engineering firm, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Water Resources Engineer to join their expanding team in Fairfax, Virginia. Position Overview
The successful candidate will support a variety of ecosystem restoration and stormwater management initiatives across the southeastern United States. This role involves technical design, field assessments, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in water resources engineering, a deep understanding of ecological and hydrologic systems, and a commitment to sustainable design.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and contribute to the design of complex environmental restoration and stormwater management projects.
- Conduct field investigations including topographic surveys, geomorphic assessments, and hydrologic monitoring.
- Develop and apply hydrologic and hydraulic models using industry-standard software (e.g., HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM).
- Prepare engineering design plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Collaborate with ecologists, landscape architects, and other engineers to develop integrated, sustainable solutions.
- Assist with permitting processes and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Provide technical support during construction, including site visits and coordination with contractors.
- Participate in proposal development and client presentations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 5 to 10 years of professional experience in water resources engineering, environmental restoration, or stormwater management.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure within 12 months is preferred.
- Strong understanding of hydrologic and ecological processes relevant to the southeastern United States.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS, and hydrologic/hydraulic modeling software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for fieldwork and project-related meetings, including overnight stays.
