Water Resources Technical Lead
Our client is a nationally recognised engineering and consulting firm delivering innovative solutions across water resources, environmental, and infrastructure projects. They are seeking a Water Resources Technical Lead to provide technical leadership on complex projects while helping grow and mentor a high-performing team of engineers and scientists.
This is an opportunity for an experienced professional to lead impactful projects focused on flood risk management, stormwater systems, watershed planning, climate resilience, hydraulic modelling, dam safety, ecosystem restoration, coastal resilience, and water resources infrastructure. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving technical excellence, client success, and the development of future industry leaders.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical lead for complex water resources projects from planning and analysis through design and implementation.
- Provide subject matter expertise in areas including hydrology and hydraulics, stormwater management, flood mitigation, watershed studies, climate adaptation, dam safety, coastal systems, and ecosystem restoration.
- Lead multidisciplinary project teams and provide technical direction throughout project delivery.
- Act as a trusted advisor to clients, helping them address complex water management and infrastructure challenges.
- Review, approve, and oversee technical deliverables, ensuring the highest standards of quality and accuracy.
- Serve as Engineer of Record and sign/seal engineering documents where applicable.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, supporting technical development and career growth.
- Support business development efforts through client engagement, proposal development, technical presentations, and project pursuits.
- Contribute to technical innovation through the adoption of emerging technologies, modelling tools, data analytics, and digital delivery practices.
- Represent the organisation at industry conferences, professional associations, and client-facing events.
- Publish technical papers, deliver presentations, and contribute to industry thought leadership initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Coastal, or related Engineering discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licence required.
- 10+ years of water resources engineering experience.
- Strong technical background in hydrologic and hydraulic modelling, stormwater systems, watershed management, flood studies, or related disciplines.
- Experience leading technical teams and delivering complex infrastructure projects.
- Strong client-facing and relationship management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to mentor technical staff and elevate engineering best practices across project teams.
Preferred Technical Experience
- Advanced hydrologic and hydraulic modelling software.
- GIS, spatial analysis, and geospatial data visualisation tools.
- Watershed, riverine, stormwater, dam safety, or coastal engineering projects.
- Digital engineering, 3D modelling, automation, scripting, or data analytics applications.
- Climate resilience, sustainability, and nature-based solutions.
