Bid Manager
Bid Manager - Water Infrastructure
Locations: Perth | Brisbane | Melbourne | Adelaide
Industry: Water Infrastructure | Design & Construct
Experience: 5+ years
The Opportunity
We are partnering with an established Design & Construct water infrastructure business in Australia to appoint a Bid Manager across multiple locations.
This opportunity is slightly different from a traditional Bid Manager position.
We are not necessarily looking for someone who has spent their career in bids or estimating. Instead, we are particularly interested in people who have developed their experience through hands-on project delivery, construction and site environments, and are now interested in bringing that knowledge into the bid and pre-contract phase.
The ideal candidate understands what it takes to successfully deliver complex projects on the ground and can use that practical experience to help develop bids that are commercially considered, technically robust and realistic from a delivery perspective.
The Role
Working across the front end of major water infrastructure opportunities, you will contribute practical construction and project delivery knowledge throughout the bid process.
You will work alongside engineering, commercial, estimating, construction and project teams to develop competitive submissions while considering the realities and complexities of delivering projects on site.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Supporting and managing bids for Design & Construct water infrastructure projects.
- Reviewing project opportunities from a construction and delivery perspective.
- Contributing practical project knowledge during bid strategy and planning.
- Identifying potential site, constructability, delivery and project risks early in the bid process.
- Working closely with engineering, estimating, commercial and construction stakeholders to develop strong project solutions.
- Supporting the development of methodologies, delivery strategies and construction approaches within bids.
- Coordinating inputs from multiple internal stakeholders throughout the tender process.
- Reviewing tender documentation and helping determine practical project requirements.
- Participating in bid reviews and contributing challenge based on previous project and site experience.
- Helping ensure what is proposed during the tender phase can realistically be delivered once a project moves into construction.
About You
We are particularly interested in candidates with 5+ years of experience within construction, engineering or project delivery, ideally within water or adjacent infrastructure markets.
You may currently be working as a:
- Project Engineer
- Senior Project Engineer
- Project Manager
- Construction Engineer
- Site Engineer
- Contracts / Project professional
- Bid or Pre-Contracts professional
Importantly, previous Bid Manager experience is not essential.
What is more important is that you:
- Have genuine hands-on exposure to construction and project delivery.
- Understand the complexities and challenges that can arise on live project sites.
- Can think practically about constructability, methodology, risk and delivery.
- Are comfortable working across technical, commercial and construction stakeholders.
- Have strong communication and coordination skills.
- Can review complex project information and understand how decisions made during tendering will influence project delivery.
- Want to transition your project experience into a bids / pre-contracts focused career path.
Experience within water, wastewater, utilities, civil infrastructure or other complex Design & Construct environments would be highly regarded.
Why Consider the Move into Bids?
For someone coming from project delivery or construction, this is an opportunity to take everything you have learned on site and across live projects and apply that experience earlier in the project lifecycle.
Rather than inheriting a project after it has been won, you will have the opportunity to influence how projects are approached, planned and positioned from the outset.
It could be an excellent next step for an experienced project professional who enjoys the strategic, technical and commercial side of construction, but is looking to move away from purely site-based project delivery.
Interested?
If you have built your career delivering complex projects and have ever thought about making the move into bids or pre-contracts, I would be interested in speaking with you.
