Director of Development - Solar (PJM)
Overview
Key Responsibilities
- Lead full-cycle development of DG and community solar projects from origination through NTP
- Set, manage, and track development stage-gates and associated capital investment decisions
- Assess project-level risks, community and stakeholder opposition, and probability of success at each development phase
- Own project schedules, budgets, and portfolio-level delivery across multiple markets
- Manage and mentor development team members, driving accountability, performance, and morale
- Establish and execute department-level development strategy aligned with company growth objectives
- Implement process improvements to streamline development execution and reporting
- Collaborate cross-functionally with interconnection, real estate, finance, engineering, construction, accounting, and legal teams
- Navigate PJM markets with particular emphasis on permitting, interconnection, and regulatory pathways
- Lead internal development meetings to allocate resources, communicate priorities, and review progress
- Manage external stakeholders including municipalities, landowners, consultants, and development service providers
- Negotiate and oversee third-party service agreements supporting development activities
- Support leadership in evaluating market entry, project investment, and broader growth initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or a related discipline; Master's degree and/or PMP preferred
- 8+ years of experience in renewable energy development, power markets, or a closely related field
- Deep understanding of PJM market dynamics, including interconnection, permitting, and policy frameworks
- Demonstrated experience leading full-cycle renewable energy projects
- Proven people leadership experience, including direct team management
- Track record of working closely with senior leadership in a fast-paced, scaling organization
- Experience managing external stakeholders, consultants, and vendors
- Strong project management, prioritization, and communication skills
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to adapt quickly in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment
- Willingness to travel up to ~25%
