Lead Engineer - Machinery (Turbines/Power Plant)
Primary Purpose
Provide technical support for rotating equipment with an immediate focus on gas and steam turbines used in power generation. Additional support is provided for projects involving ammonia, syngas, hydrogen, and CO₂ pumping and compression in large‑scale plant operations.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Specify, evaluate, and select new plant machinery for large capital projects.
- Develop mechanical procedures, engineering standards, and equipment specifications.
- Develop and track life‑cycle costs for rotating equipment repairs and replacements.
- Conduct root‑cause failure analyses (RCFA) and incident investigations using recognized methodologies.
- Develop Reliability‑Centered Maintenance (RCM) and Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (FMEA) as part of large capital projects.
- Develop preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for machinery.
- Prepare Request for Proposal (RFP) documents, manage bid processes, and perform detailed bid evaluations related to rotating equipment in large plant facilities.
- Specify ancillary compression and liquid pumping equipment based on operating conditions.
- Mentor less‑experienced technical professionals to support overall engineering and project execution capabilities.
- Provide technical expertise in support of internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with suppliers to resolve technical issues related to rotating equipment.
- Develop and update company equipment specifications and engineering standards.
- Prioritize, plan, schedule, manage, and report on multiple projects concurrently.
- Review and manage projects with regard to economics, safety, engineering standards, construction standards, and operating and maintenance procedures.
- Develop project scopes, schedules, cost estimates, and budget forecasts with limited supervision.
- Provide engineering support to field operations as required.
- Collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders using professionalism, tact, and courtesy.
- Maintain dependable attendance and a high level of job performance.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to personal safety, asset protection, employee safety, and public safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in engineering or a related discipline.
Experience
- Minimum of ten (10) years of direct experience in rotating equipment design, maintenance, and operations within large plant facilities.
Experience / Specific Knowledge
- Proficiency with standard office software applications (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, email).
- Experience with combined‑cycle power plant design.
- Experience with compressor and pump station design.
- Experience with pump station design in process safety-managed (PSM) facilities.
- Job level to be determined based on qualifications, experience, and demonstrated skill set.
Certifications, Licenses & Registrations
- Valid driver's license with a driving record satisfactory for business travel requirements.
Competencies, Skills & Abilities
- Strong foundational engineering skills.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings, flow charts, cause‑and‑effect diagrams, and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment, follow direction, adhere to schedules, and maintain attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
