Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) - Wisconsin

Position Overview

Seeking an experienced Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) to serve as a key member of the survey team, working closely with the Director of Survey and acting as a liaison between clients, government agencies, internal staff, and field crews. This role focuses on office-based surveying functions supporting land development, land divisions, condominiums, transportation platting, and civil engineering projects.

Qualifications

  • Current Wisconsin Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license or ability to obtain Wisconsin licensure
  • Minimum 5-10 years of land surveying experience in:
    • Land Development
    • Construction
    • Land Division Projects
  • Associate's Degree in Land Surveying or Civil Engineering, or Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering Technology
  • Education requirements necessary for Professional Land Surveyor licensure
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering principles and surveying practices
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication, organizational, and multitasking skills
  • Ability to work extended hours as needed to meet project deadlines
  • Passion for mentoring, training, and leading survey staff

Responsibilities

  • Research public records to determine property boundaries, easements, and ownership information
  • Prepare flood elevation certificates
  • Scope projects and develop survey estimates
  • Coordinate land division project schedules and agency submittals
  • Produce maps, plats, legal descriptions, and exhibits using Civil 3D
  • Prepare project correspondence and construction phase documentation
  • Direct and prepare:
    • Plats of Survey
    • Certified Survey Maps (CSMs)
    • Subdivision Plats
    • ALTA/NSPS Surveys
    • Condominium Plats
    • Legal Descriptions & Exhibits
    • GPS Surveying & Mapping
    • Aerial Mapping
    • Construction Surveying & Mapping
    • Horizontal & Vertical Control Surveys
  • Provide oversight and guidance for field survey operations
  • Create and recreate surfaces for construction layout purposes
  • Manage project administration including scheduling, status reporting, and agency coordination
  • Support engineering and design teams with survey expertise
  • Represent project teams at community meetings as needed
  • Facilitate communication between departments and project stakeholders
  • File applications and coordinate approvals for land division projects
  • Perform survey calculations including lot dimensions, areas, volumes, cut/fill quantities, and related computations
  • Mentor and train technicians, crew chiefs, and junior staff
