Location: Detroit, MI (Hybrid) | Full-Time

About the Opportunity

A leading energy infrastructure organization is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to provide technical leadership for the design, development, and support of power generation and electrical infrastructure projects. This role will serve as a key technical resource for electrical systems across generation assets and industrial power facilities, supporting both new project development and existing operations.

The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in medium-voltage power systems, protective relaying, generation equipment, electrical distribution, and system reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead conceptual electrical engineering efforts for new development and capital projects.
  • Provide technical oversight of electrical system design, equipment specifications, and engineering standards.
  • Support the design and integration of power generation systems, including gas turbines, reciprocating engines, and steam turbines.
  • Oversee electrical infrastructure projects involving transformers, switchgear, protective relays, motors, feeders, and control systems.
  • Develop and review sequences of operation, control logic, and system integration requirements.
  • Ensure electrical studies including load flow, coordination, arc flash, and reliability analyses are completed and maintained.
  • Support capital projects, equipment upgrades, and plant modernization initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot complex electrical and control system issues and develop engineered solutions.
  • Partner with operations and plant leadership to improve system reliability and performance.
  • Conduct root cause analyses and implement corrective action plans for electrical system failures.
  • Serve as a technical resource for operating facilities, emergency response efforts, and due diligence reviews.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 10+ years of experience supporting large industrial facilities, power generation assets, or utility electrical systems.
  • Extensive experience with medium-voltage electrical distribution systems.
  • Strong knowledge of protective relaying, switchgear, transformers, motors, and power system equipment.
  • Experience supporting electrical infrastructure projects from concept through execution.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.

Preferred

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience supporting power generation facilities.
  • Knowledge of gas turbines, reciprocating engines, and steam turbine systems.
  • Experience performing or reviewing load flow, coordination, arc flash, and reliability studies.
  • Background supporting utility, industrial, or energy infrastructure projects.
