Senior Project Manager - Federal A/E
Location: Greater Boston Area (Hybrid)
My client, a highly respected multidisciplinary architecture and engineering firm, is seeking a Senior Project Manager - Federal A/E to help lead and expand its federal government practice. This is a strategic opportunity for a licensed architect or engineer with strong project management expertise, client relationship skills, and experience delivering complex, multidisciplinary projects.
This firm has a longstanding history of designing secure, technically sophisticated, and mission-critical facilities for government clients, including military training centers, workplaces, laboratories, research environments, educational facilities, and other specialized public-sector projects. As the federal practice continues to grow, my client is seeking a leader who can strengthen project delivery while contributing to the long-term growth and success of this market sector.
This role is ideal for an experienced project leader who enjoys managing complex projects while helping shape the future direction of a growing federal practice.
About the Role
As part of this firm's continued investment in federal and public-sector work, the Senior Project Manager will play a key role in pursuing, planning, and delivering projects within a collaborative, integrated environment consisting of architects, engineers, planners, designers, and technical specialists.
This position offers the opportunity to take on meaningful leadership responsibilities while helping define best practices and drive project excellence across the firm's federal portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead multidisciplinary architecture and engineering teams through planning, design, documentation, construction administration, and project closeout.
- Serve as the primary client-facing leader on federal, government, and public-sector projects.
- Manage project scope, budget, schedule, staffing, fees, deliverables, and overall financial performance.
- Coordinate internal teams and external consultants to ensure successful project execution.
- Develop project work plans, staffing strategies, and delivery approaches.
- Identify and proactively manage project risks related to scope, schedule, budget, quality, and client expectations.
- Guide project teams through agency reviews, comment resolution, and milestone submissions.
- Oversee quality management and technical review processes.
- Present project updates, technical solutions, and progress reports to clients, agencies, and stakeholders.
- Support business development activities, including pursuits, proposals, interviews, and teaming opportunities.
- Mentor architects, engineers, and emerging professionals.
- Help advance this firm's federal project delivery standards, knowledge base, and best practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Active professional licensure as a Registered Architect (RA) or Professional Engineer (PE).
- 10+ years of experience within the architecture, engineering, and construction industry.
- Demonstrated success managing large-scale, multidisciplinary design projects.
- Strong leadership experience coordinating project teams, consultants, and stakeholders.
- Thorough understanding of project management principles, including scope, schedule, budget, staffing, risk management, and quality control.
- Experience with federal, public-sector, institutional, infrastructure, or similarly complex projects.
- Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and client-facing communication skills.
- Ability to travel to project sites and client locations as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with federal agencies such as USACE, NAVFAC, AFCEC, GSA, VA, National Guard, or similar organizations.
- Knowledge of Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and other federal design standards.
- Experience with IDIQ, MATOC, SATOC, and/or design-build project delivery methods.
- Background supporting proposals, interviews, pursuits, and client development activities.
- Experience working on secure, mission-critical, or clearance-sensitive projects.
- PMP, DBIA, LEED, CQM-C, or similar professional credentials.
