Senior Transit Planner | Baltimore, MD
A well-established, employee-focused engineering and planning consulting firm is seeking a Senior Transit/Transportation Planner to support and lead bus and rail transit planning projects. This is an opportunity for a hands-on transit planning professional to help deliver complex transportation initiatives from concept through implementation while working alongside multidisciplinary teams of planners, engineers, and technical specialists.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support transit planning studies, corridor evaluations, and transportation improvement initiatives.
- Prepare technical reports, transportation plans, and feasibility analyses.
- Analyze transit operations and recommend service enhancements to improve mobility and efficiency.
- Support bus service planning, corridor improvement programs, and multimodal transportation initiatives.
- Work with stakeholders, transit agencies, DOTs, and community partners to build consensus and secure project approvals.
- Facilitate public engagement efforts, presentations, and stakeholder meetings.
- Utilize GIS and data analysis tools to develop mapping and visualization materials.
- Assist with proposals, work plans, project delivery, and client relationship management.
- Mentor staff and provide technical guidance on planning and transportation-related projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, Environmental Planning, or a related field.
- 16+ years of transportation and transit planning experience.
- Experience collaborating with transit agencies and/or Departments of Transportation.
- Strong background in transit studies, bus service planning, and corridor improvement projects.
- Experience with federal funding programs and grant applications.
- Demonstrated success leading complex transportation planning initiatives.
Preferred Skills
- AICP certification or equivalent preferred.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience with Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), transit signal priority, or related transit technologies.
- GIS and data visualization experience.
- Strong project management and organizational abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced consulting environment.
