Survey Crew Chief | Wall, NJ

Client is looking for a seasoned Survey Crew Chief to oversee field survey operations from their Wall Township, New Jersey office. The firm is seeking a proactive and dependable surveying professional who excels in a field environment, works well independently, and is committed to delivering precise and dependable survey data. In this role, you will lead survey crews conducting a variety of projects, including boundary, ALTA/NSPS, topographic, as-built, and design surveys, as well as construction staking, utility investigations, and 3D laser scanning services. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical expertise, makes confident field decisions with minimal oversight, and has experience utilizing Leica and Trimble survey equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and perform field surveys related to site development, including grading, drainage, utility infrastructure, and site layout.
  • Upload, download, and maintain survey data collected in the field on a daily basis.
  • Ensure survey instruments and equipment are properly maintained, stored, and charged.
  • Operate effectively in either single-person or two-person crew environments.
  • Collect field measurements, document observations, maintain accurate field notes, and operate surveying equipment.
  • Conduct construction staking activities, including grade staking, building stakeout, and structural layout.
  • Perform staking for storm drainage systems, sanitary utilities, curbing, and related improvements.
  • Verify data accuracy through established quality control and quality assurance procedures.
  • Perform survey calculations using coordinate geometry software to determine field positions, property corners, and other survey points.
  • Utilize Leica and Trimble robotic total stations, GPS systems, and data collectors for field operations.
  • Prepare clear and accurate field sketches and documentation.
  • Lead and mentor field personnel by assigning tasks, monitoring productivity, maintaining project schedules, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Maintain accountability for project execution, data quality, and overall field performance.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years of survey field experience.
  • At least 5 years serving as a Party Chief or Crew Chief with responsibility for leading survey crews.
  • Hands-on experience with Leica and Trimble robotic total stations, GPS receivers, and survey controllers.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and dependability.
  • Ability to work outdoors on active construction sites and in varying weather conditions.
  • Flexible schedule with the ability to work overtime when project demands require it.
  • Experience with CAD software is preferred but not required.
