Position Summary

We are seeking a Technical Manager - Data Centers to serve as the senior technical leader for our mission-critical projects portfolio. This role will provide technical oversight across engineering, automation, controls, commissioning, and operational support activities while ensuring the highest standards of quality, performance, and customer satisfaction.

The Technical Manager will lead multidisciplinary teams responsible for system architecture, hardware design, PLC programming, SCADA/HMI development, network integration, commissioning, and startup activities across complex data center and critical infrastructure projects. This position will play a key role in setting technical direction, mentoring engineering talent, and supporting strategic business growth.


Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Establish engineering standards, technical governance, and best practices across all projects.
  • Provide technical leadership for mission-critical automation and control system deployments.
  • Lead architecture reviews and ensure technical consistency across multiple projects.
  • Drive quality assurance initiatives and technical risk mitigation efforts.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that improve performance, reliability, and scalability.

Engineering & Project Support

  • Support complex project pursuits, engineering reviews, and technical proposal development.
  • Participate in estimating, project planning, and solution development activities.
  • Review system architectures, control strategies, and design documentation.
  • Provide technical guidance throughout project execution, startup, and commissioning phases.
  • Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and commissioning activities.

Automation & Controls Expertise

  • Oversee the design and implementation of PLC, SCADA, HMI, and industrial networking solutions.
  • Ensure control systems are designed to meet reliability, cybersecurity, and operational requirements.
  • Support troubleshooting and resolution of complex technical issues during project execution and startup.
  • Establish standards for automation system architecture, programming, and documentation.

Team Development

  • Mentor and develop engineers, technical specialists, and project technical leads.
  • Promote knowledge sharing and professional development across engineering teams.
  • Support recruitment and training of technical personnel.
  • Build a culture focused on innovation, accountability, and engineering excellence.

Customer & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as a senior technical advisor to customers, contractors, and project teams.
  • Participate in executive and customer-facing technical discussions.
  • Support project teams during escalations and critical issue resolution.
  • Build trusted client relationships through technical expertise and successful project delivery.

Strategic Growth

  • Partner with operations and business leaders to expand technical capabilities.
  • Support business development activities and major project pursuits.
  • Identify opportunities to improve technical processes, tools, and delivery methodologies.
  • Help establish scalable execution models that support long-term growth in the data center market.

Technical Qualifications

  • Experience supporting mission-critical, industrial, infrastructure, or data center environments.
  • Strong understanding of automation integration, controls architecture, commissioning, and operational procedures.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and technical teams simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Logix PLC platforms.
  • Experience with Siemens, Schneider Electric, GE, or similar control systems is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of HMI and SCADA platforms, including Ignition, FactoryTalk, Wonderware, or comparable solutions.
  • Experience with instrumentation, controls devices, and field troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of industrial networking, communication protocols, and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Familiarity with electrical systems, power monitoring, and mission-critical facility operations is preferred.
  • Knowledge of DDC, BAS, or BMS systems is advantageous.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Automation, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience leading automation, controls, PLC, SCADA, or systems integration projects.
  • Proven experience supporting large-scale mission-critical or industrial automation projects.
  • Strong background in commissioning, startup, validation, and operational readiness activities.
  • Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams and technical resources.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience working for a systems integrator, automation contractor, or controls engineering organization is highly preferred.
  • Data center, critical facilities, or infrastructure project experience strongly preferred.
