About the Opportunity
A growing employee-owned engineering consulting firm is seeking a Transportation Planner to support a variety of transportation planning, traffic engineering, and mobility projects throughout the Southeast. The firm partners with state and local governments to improve transportation networks, enhance community connectivity, and deliver innovative infrastructure solutions. The organization offers expertise in transportation engineering, community planning, land surveying, and related infrastructure services.
This position is ideal for a planner who enjoys working on a mix of transportation planning, traffic operations, corridor studies, mobility planning, and public engagement projects. Experience with Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) initiatives is a plus, but not required.
Key Responsibilities
- Support transportation planning and traffic engineering projects for municipal, county, MPO, and state agency clients.
- Prepare corridor studies, transportation master plans, mobility studies, and traffic impact assessments.
- Analyze traffic data, roadway operations, crash trends, and transportation system performance.
- Assist with multimodal transportation planning, including pedestrian, bicycle, transit, and Complete Streets initiatives.
- Coordinate with engineers, planners, public agencies, and stakeholders throughout project development.
- Develop technical reports, presentations, graphics, and planning documents.
- Assist with public involvement meetings, stakeholder engagement, and community outreach efforts.
- Support transportation funding applications and grant opportunities.
- Conduct research and data collection to support planning recommendations.
- Contribute to project management activities, including schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, or a related field.
- 3+ years of transportation planning or traffic engineering experience.
- Understanding of transportation planning principles and traffic operations.
- Experience working with local governments, MPOs, DOTs, or public sector clients.
- Familiarity with traffic studies, safety analysis, and transportation data analysis.
- Proficiency with GIS, Microsoft Office, and transportation planning tools.
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- AICP certification or ability to obtain.
- Experience with traffic modeling or traffic operations analysis.
- Knowledge of Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) programs, Vision Zero initiatives, or roadway safety planning.
- Experience with public engagement and stakeholder coordination.
- Familiarity with transportation grant funding programs.
