Applications Engineer
Overview
A rapidly growing clean technology company is seeking an Applications Engineer to support the implementation of innovative membrane-based water treatment solutions across industrial and municipal markets. This position will serve as a technical resource throughout the sales and project lifecycle, helping customers evaluate, design, and optimize treatment systems for complex water reuse, process water, and wastewater applications.
The ideal candidate will combine strong process engineering fundamentals with customer-facing experience and a passion for sustainable water technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop preliminary process designs and treatment concepts for water and wastewater applications.
- Perform process calculations, equipment sizing, mass balances, and technology evaluations.
- Support pilot testing, data analysis, and performance assessments.
- Collaborate with customers to understand treatment objectives and recommend technical solutions.
- Provide technical support to the commercial team during proposal development and project execution.
- Prepare process flow diagrams (PFDs), technical reports, and customer presentations.
- Troubleshoot operational challenges and identify optimization opportunities.
- Work closely with R&D, product development, and engineering teams to support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain awareness of emerging treatment technologies, regulations, and industry trends.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in water, wastewater, process treatment, or membrane technology applications.
- Knowledge of filtration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration, reverse osmosis, or related separation technologies.
- Experience interpreting water chemistry and process performance data.
- Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to travel periodically to customer sites, pilots, and industry events.
Preferred Experience
- Industrial water treatment, water reuse, or advanced treatment applications.
- Membrane process design and integration.
- Pilot testing and field commissioning.
- Experience supporting both municipal and industrial clients.
- Familiarity with process modeling, treatment system design, and proposal development.
