Audio Visual (AV) Design Engineer

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Audio Visual (AV) Design Engineer to join our team. This role is responsible for designing, specifying, and supporting integrated audiovisual systems for a variety of commercial and institutional projects. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise with creative problem-solving to deliver high-quality AV solutions that meet client needs and industry standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop AV systems for projects including corporate offices, conference rooms, classrooms, and large-scale venues
  • Translate client requirements into detailed system designs, including schematics, signal flow diagrams, and equipment specifications
  • Generate complete design documentation using AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design tools
  • Collaborate with sales, project management, and installation teams to ensure seamless project delivery
  • Specify AV equipment such as displays, projection systems, audio systems, control systems, and networked AV solutions
  • Perform system calculations including acoustics, sightlines, and signal distribution
  • Review and validate technical drawings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards
  • Support commissioning and troubleshooting of AV systems as needed
  • Stay current with emerging AV technologies and industry best practices
  • Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and presentations

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Audio Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years of experience in AV system design or a similar technical role
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit for AV system design
  • Strong understanding of AV technologies, including audio DSP systems, video distribution, control systems, and networking fundamentals
  • Familiarity with major AV manufacturers (e.g., Crestron, Extron, QSC, Biamp, Shure)
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and electrical drawings
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Preferred

  • CTS-D (Certified Technology Specialist - Design) certification or equivalent
  • Experience with AV over IP technologies
  • Knowledge of acoustical modeling and simulation tools
  • Experience with unified communications platforms (e.g., Microsoft Teams Rooms, Zoom Rooms)
