Position Description
The Bridge Engineer is responsible for the planning, analysis, design, inspection, and construction support of bridge and transportation-related structures. This role works collaboratively with multi‑disciplinary teams to deliver safe, cost‑effective, and innovative infrastructure solutions for public and private clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform structural analysis and design of bridges and related transportation structures (e.g., retaining walls, culverts, sign structures).
- Prepare preliminary and final bridge plans, specifications, estimates (PS&E), and technical reports.
- Conduct load ratings and structural assessments in accordance with applicable design standards.
- Assist with bridge inspections and condition evaluations, including preparation of inspection reports.
- Coordinate with project managers, roadway designers, geotechnical engineers, and other disciplines.
- Support construction activities through shop drawing review, field observations, and responses to contractor inquiries.
- Ensure designs comply with federal, state, and local regulations and client requirements.
- Utilize engineering software and tools to develop calculations, models, and drawings.
- Participate in client meetings and support proposal development as needed.
- Apply quality control procedures and contribute to continuous improvement of design practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
- 3-10+ years of professional experience in bridge or structural engineering (level dependent).
- Experience with bridge design standards such as:
- AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications
- State Department of Transportation (DOT) manuals
- Proficiency with structural engineering and design software (e.g., CSiBridge, LEAP Bridge, LARSA, MicroStation, AutoCAD).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- B.S in Civil Engineering
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure.
- Experience working on DOT or federally funded transportation projects.
- Familiarity with construction sequencing and constructability considerations.
- Experience in task leadership or mentoring junior engineers.
Physical & Work Environment
- Hybrid Schedule with periodic field work, including bridge inspections and construction sites.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project needs.
