I'm working with a well-established full-service engineering and technical consulting firm that delivers building enclosure evaluation, design support, and construction-phase services as part of a broader multidisciplinary practice. The firm supports a diverse portfolio of projects including education, municipal, commercial, and large-scale facilities, and is known for its technical depth, strong mentorship culture, and collaborative approach to solving complex building performance challenges.
They are seeking a Project Engineer / Field Technician to join their growing team. This role is well suited for an early- to mid-career professional who enjoys hands-on fieldwork, supporting investigations and testing, and developing strong fundamentals in building envelope systems with a clear path for advancement.
The Role
The Project Engineer / Field Technician will support building enclosure assessments, forensic investigations, field testing, and construction-phase services. This position combines hands-on fieldwork with technical documentation and coordination, working closely with senior engineers, project managers, contractors, and clients. The role offers broad exposure to façade and enclosure systems and strong opportunities for technical training, certification, and career progression into advanced engineering or project management roles.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with building enclosure assessments, investigations, and site observations
- Perform and support field testing in accordance with AAMA and ASTM standards
- Document field conditions, deficiencies, and test results through reports, photographs, and sketches
- Support preparation of building envelope evaluation reports and technical memoranda
- Apply relevant building codes and industry standards under the guidance of senior staff
- Participate in construction-phase services, including site visits and coordination with contractors
- Review architectural, structural, and MEP drawings to identify enclosure-related issues
- Assist with development of Owner's Project Requirements (OPR) and testing plans
- Coordinate with internal team members and external consultants to support project delivery
- Maintain field equipment, testing tools, and documentation standards
Qualifications & Experience
- 5+ years of experience in engineering, architecture, construction, or building science, with field-based experience strongly preferred
- Familiarity with façade systems such as roofing, waterproofing, curtain wall, glazing, masonry, and air/water barriers
- Strong interest in building science, construction detailing, and building performance
- Working knowledge of OSHA requirements or willingness to obtain certification
- Strong written documentation and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with field personnel, consultants, and project teams
- Willingness to travel locally or regionally as required
- Physical ability to work on active construction sites, including climbing ladders, working at heights exceeding 10 feet, and lifting materials over 30 pounds
Preferred Qualifications
- Progress toward or interest in pursuing IIBEC credentials (e.g., RCI, RRO, REWO)
- Hands-on experience performing AAMA or ASTM field testing
- Proficiency with Bluebeam, Autodesk applications, and Microsoft Office
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish
