Construction Manager - Commercial Solar

Job Summary

A national commercial solar Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) organization is seeking an experienced Construction Manager to support large-scale solar construction projects across multiple regions. This position is responsible for overseeing all phases of construction from mobilization through project closeout, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements. The role partners closely with internal operations leadership and project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage subcontractors to ensure work is completed on schedule, meets quality standards, and aligns with approved plans, specifications, and budgets
  • Supervise field personnel and coordinate daily activities including labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Review and interpret project documentation including permits, insurance requirements, schedules, QA/QC standards, blueprints, schematics, assembly instructions, and operation/maintenance manuals
  • Track and document schedule impacts, scope changes, and Requests for Information (RFIs)
  • Monitor and enforce jobsite quality control standards
  • Perform basic mathematical calculations related to structural and electrical loading requirements
  • Coordinate with local authorities and inspectors (building, permitting, public works, fire, and safety officials) as required
  • Provide hands-on assistance with field installations when needed
  • Travel required up to 75-100% (regional and national)

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software platforms
  • Thorough understanding of construction contracts, drawings, specifications, and applicable regulations
  • Ability to remain flexible, organized, and effective in a fast-paced construction environment
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills under pressure
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Advanced ability to read and interpret engineering, architectural, and construction drawings

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in construction management or a related role
  • Experience with electrical underground conduit installation and terminations
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing crews and subcontractors
  • Experience on utility-scale or large commercial solar projects (1 MW+)
  • Background working with subcontracted and/or self-performed construction scopes
  • High level of professionalism and strong work ethic
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and team-building skills
  • Proficient in reviewing blueprints, plans, specifications, contracts, subcontracts, and purchase orders
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and results-driven
  • Working knowledge of AC/DC electrical codes, electrical safety standards, and compliance with OSHA and applicable safety regulations

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to access and work throughout active construction sites in varying weather conditions, including walking, climbing, bending, reaching, crawling, and lifting
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Willingness to work in environments with standard construction site hazards
