Position Overview
A growing transportation engineering consulting firm is seeking a Project Controls Manager to support financial performance, project planning, and operational reporting across multiple Texas offices. This role serves as a key partner to project managers, office leadership, and executive teams by providing visibility into project financial health, forecasting workload, monitoring key metrics, and supporting overall business operations.
The ideal candidate will have experience in project-based professional services environments and enjoy working at the intersection of finance, operations, and project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with project managers and office leaders to monitor project performance, budgets, schedules, and profitability.
- Track project financials, labor utilization, backlog, revenue forecasts, and resource planning across multiple offices.
- Develop and maintain project performance reports, dashboards, and operational KPIs.
- Review project budgets, contract terms, amendments, and change orders.
- Support monthly forecasting and revenue projections for leadership teams.
- Analyze project trends and identify financial risks, scope concerns, and budget variances.
- Assist with workload planning and resource allocation across transportation engineering teams.
- Work closely with accounting to support invoicing, revenue recognition, project setup, and WIP management.
- Provide operational and financial reporting to executives and office leadership.
- Help establish best practices for project controls, reporting, and performance monitoring.
- Support annual business planning, budgeting, and growth initiatives.
- Assist with implementation and optimization of project management and ERP systems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in project controls, project accounting, financial analysis, operations, or consulting environments.
- Experience supporting multiple offices, business units, or large project portfolios.
- Strong understanding of project budgets, forecasting, labor management, and profitability analysis.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with project-based ERP systems.
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
- Ability to work directly with project managers, technical teams, and executive leadership.
Preferred Experience
- Transportation, civil engineering, architecture, environmental consulting, or construction industry experience.
- Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint, Deltek Vision, Power BI, or similar reporting platforms.
- Knowledge of project lifecycles, utilization management, backlog analysis, and resource forecasting.
- Experience building operational reporting tools and executive dashboards.
- Multi-office consulting firm experience preferred.
