About the Role
The company is seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to lead its engineering function across the full project lifecycle-from early concept through operations. This senior technical leader will oversee engineering due diligence, design reviews, interconnection, performance modeling, and system optimization across a growing national renewable energy portfolio.
This is a Denver-based, in-office role, working cross-functionally with development, construction, asset management, and finance teams. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise in utility-scale renewable energy systems with strong leadership, communication, and process-building skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering function covering utility-scale solar, wind, and storage projects from early development through operations.
- Oversee all engineering due diligence, technical analysis, and design validation.
- Serve as the internal subject matter expert on system design, performance modeling, interconnection, and emerging technologies.
- Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders-including development teams, EPC providers, OEMs, consultants, and construction teams-to ensure technical alignment.
- Establish and maintain engineering standards, design guidelines, QA/QC protocols, and technical specifications.
- Conduct performance evaluations, analyze operational data, and recommend performance improvements across the portfolio.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and career development for engineers and analysts.
- Represent the company in industry forums, technical working groups, vendor negotiations, and regulatory discussions.
- Drive continuous improvement and support scalable growth through better processes, tools, and systems.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of engineering experience within renewable energy or power generation, with increasing leadership responsibility.
- Deep technical expertise in utility-scale solar, wind, and/or battery storage system design and operations.
- Strong understanding of interconnection studies, electrical design, civil engineering, and performance modeling tools (e.g., PVSyst, Helioscope, WindPRO).
- Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (NERC, FERC, IEEE, NEC, etc.).
- Proven experience leading engineering teams and supporting large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to convey complex technical concepts to varied audiences.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field required; advanced degree or PE license preferred.
- Passion for renewable energy and a collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset.
Compensation
- Base salary: $200,000 - $250,000
- Annual year-end bonus (guaranteed in year one)
