Project Manager - Distribution Engineering
A leading engineering consultancy is seeking a Project Manager to support its growing Distribution Modernization practice in the South-Central U.S. region. This role involves managing all aspects of distribution engineering projects, from concept through completion. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in utility distribution systems, proven project management experience, and the ability to foster long-term client relationships.
Location: Houston, Texas
Travel: Approximately 20%
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee distribution engineering projects, including routing/siting, permitting, planning, estimating, design, right-of-way acquisition, procurement, construction administration, and closeout.
- Serve as the primary client contact, ensuring satisfaction and repeat business.
- Prepare proposals, support presentations, and participate in contract negotiations.
- Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and internal financials.
- Implement project policies, procedures, and execution plans.
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure quality deliverables and compliance with QA/QC standards.
- Report regularly on project progress, risks, and performance metrics.
- Support team development through hiring, training, and mentoring.
- Assist in business development and marketing efforts to grow client base.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction, or a related field (advanced degrees may substitute for experience).
- Minimum 7 years of experience in distribution engineering, with at least 3 years in project management.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Experience producing distribution design and construction documents.
- Familiarity with NESC and other relevant industry codes and standards.
- Demonstrated success in managing complex projects and client relationships.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license and/or PMP certification preferred.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel as needed.
- Prior consulting experience is a plus.
