Electrical Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer with deep expertise in renewable energy, specifically Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) design, testing, and commissioning. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineering professional with direct field experience supporting or leading the commissioning of utility-scale or commercial renewable energy systems. The position requires strong technical coordination across internal teams, customers, utilities, third-party commissioning firms, and engineering support providers.

Overview

The ideal candidate has a robust background in PV system commissioning, an understanding of testing protocols, and the ability to oversee and evaluate third-party commissioning providers. This person will review test procedures, validate reports, troubleshoot issues in the field, and develop comprehensive commissioning documentation. Experience with PV system software and coordination with external engineering resources is highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and support electrical engineering activities for Solar PV and BESS projects.
• Oversee and support commissioning activities, with strong preference for direct PV commissioning experience.
• Manage and coordinate with third-party commissioning firms to ensure compliance with project requirements, utility standards, and customer specifications.
• Review and follow testing procedures established by utilities and customer technical documentation.
• Evaluate quotes, proposals, and contracts for site commissioning services and related engineering support.
• Review commissioning and testing reports to confirm compliance with project and customer expectations.
• Interpret third-party test data and translate findings into clear, concise customer-facing reports.
• Troubleshoot field issues related to commissioning, protection, controls, or testing.
• Prepare detailed and comprehensive commissioning reports for project turnover.
• Coordinate communication across internal teams, external vendors, utilities, and customers.
• Support project execution from design through startup, testing, turnover, and final acceptance.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Senior-level experience in electrical engineering within the renewable energy industry.
• Proven experience with Solar PV and BESS system design.
• Strong understanding of the commissioning process for renewable energy projects.
• Hands-on commissioning experience is required.
• Experience managing third-party commissioning firms.
• Ability to review and apply technical test procedures per utility and customer requirements.
• Strong ability to interpret and validate commissioning/testing reports.
• Ability to consolidate technical findings into clear customer-facing summaries.
• Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
• NETA certification preferred or strong understanding of NETA standards.
• Experience programming or working with SEL systems and RDB files.
• Ability to troubleshoot field issues related to commissioning and electrical systems.
• Strong technical writing skills and ability to produce complete engineering documentation.
• Strong organizational skills and cross-functional communication abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (PE) licensure preferred.
• Direct experience with PV system commissioning strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with utility interconnection testing and turnover processes.
• Experience in fast-paced EPC, developer, or renewable project delivery environments.
