Forensic Structural Designer

About the Opportunity

LVI Associates is working with a respected structural engineering and forensic consulting firm based in Sacramento that specializes in uncovering the "why" behind structural failures. Our client is seeking a Junior Structural Engineer with 3-5 years of experience, ideally with a background in forensic investigations, to join their growing team.

This is a unique opportunity to blend engineering expertise with investigative curiosity-perfect for someone who enjoys digging into the details, solving structural mysteries, and contributing to litigation support and expert witness services.

What You'll Do

  • Assist in forensic investigations of structural failures, construction defects, and damage assessments.
  • Conduct site inspections, document findings, and support the development of technical reports.
  • Analyze structural systems using tools such as RISA, SAP2000, and AutoCAD/Revit.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers, legal teams, and insurance professionals on casework.
  • Support litigation efforts with detailed documentation, drawings, and calculations.
  • Participate in repair design and retrofit recommendations based on investigative findings.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master's a plus).
  • 3-5 years of structural engineering experience, with at least 1-2 years in forensic or investigative work.
  • EIT certification required; PE license in progress or planned.
  • Strong analytical and observational skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills-experience writing technical reports is a big plus.
  • Familiarity with California building codes and seismic design principles.
