Our client is a well-established geotechnical and structural consulting firm with a strong reputation throughout the New York market. As part of their long-term growth strategy and succession planning initiatives, they are seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer with expertise in Support of Excavation (SOE) design to play a key role in the future leadership of the business.
This is not simply a project delivery position. The firm is looking for an engineer who wants to build a practice, develop client relationships, mentor younger staff, and position themselves for a rapid progression into a Principal-level role.

The Role
You will lead the design and delivery of geotechnical and temporary works projects throughout the New York region, with a particular focus on support of excavation systems for complex urban developments.
Working directly alongside senior leadership, you will serve as both a technical resource and strategic contributor as the firm continues to expand its geotechnical capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and review Support of Excavation (SOE) systems for urban construction projects.
- Perform geotechnical analyses related to excavation support, earth retention systems, deep foundations, and retaining structures.
- Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, and construction documents.
- Provide technical oversight throughout design and construction phases.
- Collaborate with contractors, developers, architects, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Conduct site visits and construction support activities as required.
- Mentor and develop junior engineering staff.
- Participate in client development and business growth initiatives.
- Help shape the long-term direction of the geotechnical practice.

Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Structural Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License or ability to obtain in the near future.
- Strong geotechnical engineering experience with a focus on SOE design.
- Experience delivering projects in dense urban environments.
- Strong communication and client-facing skills.
- Ability to independently manage projects and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
Preferred
- 3-10 years of relevant experience.
- Existing relationships within the NYC construction, development, or engineering community.
- Experience managing staff and overseeing technical design teams.
- Interest in business development and leadership responsibilities.
