Location: Salt Lake City, UT

Overview
A nationally recognized, multidisciplinary engineering consulting firm is looking to add a Geotechnical Project Engineer to its growing Salt Lake City team. This group supports a diverse mix of land development and infrastructure projects and is known for integrating geotechnical expertise closely with civil design teams.

This role is ideal for someone who wants to take ownership of projects while continuing to build technical depth in both analysis and client-facing work.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and execute geotechnical investigations from scoping through final deliverables
  • Prepare and review geotechnical engineering reports, including:
    • Foundation design recommendations
    • Earthwork and site preparation
    • Pavement design
    • Groundwater and drainage considerations
  • Perform engineering analyses including:
    • Bearing capacity and settlement
    • Slope stability
    • Earth pressures and retaining systems
  • Coordinate and oversee field exploration programs:
    • Drilling, sampling, and laboratory testing
    • Construction observation and field documentation
  • Interface with internal civil/site design teams to align geotechnical recommendations with project design
  • Support client communication, including presenting findings and responding to review comments
  • Assist with proposals, budgeting, and project scheduling
  • Provide guidance to junior staff and review technical work

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering or related field
  • PE required or in progress
  • 4 to 8 years of geotechnical engineering experience
  • Strong mix of field, analysis, and report writing experience
  • Background supporting land development and/or infrastructure projects
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary consulting environment preferred
  • Familiarity with:
    • Slope stability and settlement software
    • Foundation and earthwork design
    • Regional geologic and soil conditions in Utah or the Mountain West
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work directly with clients and internal teams
