Head of Business Development - Japan

We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven Head of Business Development to lead and expand our growth platform in Japan. This role will oversee the full business development lifecycle, including project development, PPA origination, and investment strategy, while acting as a trusted strategic partner to the Country Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the end-to-end project development function, from origination through to financial close
  • Oversee and integrate the Project Development, PPA/Offtake, and Investment teams to ensure aligned commercial strategy
  • Drive pipeline growth by identifying, evaluating, and securing new opportunities across renewable energy assets (e.g., BESS, solar, wind)
  • Originate and negotiate Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with utilities, corporates, and strategic partners
  • Work closely with internal investment teams to structure and execute M&A, project financing, and partnerships
  • Act as a key advisor to the Country Manager, contributing to market strategy, portfolio positioning, and long-term growth planning
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with local stakeholders, regulators, partners, and off-takers in Japan
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing, cross-functional business development team

Requirements:

  • Proven track record in renewable energy project development and/or business development leadership in Japan
  • Deep understanding of the Japanese energy market, regulatory landscape, and key stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and drive projects from concept to execution
  • Strong commercial acumen with strategic thinking and execution capability
  • Bilingual in Japanese and English (native-level Japanese and business-level English preferred)
