Our client is a growing renewable energy developer and investor with a strong presence in Japan. The platform focuses on developing, investing in, and managing renewable energy assets including solar, wind, and energy storage, with increasing interest in adjacent infrastructure sectors such as data centers.
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Investment General Manager to lead investment strategy, transaction execution, and portfolio growth in Japan. This is a senior leadership role responsible for driving M&A, project finance, and fund-related activities while supporting expansion into new sectors such as data centers.
You will play a key role in shaping the company's investment direction, managing a team, and working closely with senior stakeholders, investors, and partners.
Key Responsibilities
Investment & Strategy
- Lead the identification and evaluation of investment opportunities across renewable energy and infrastructure sectors
- Develop and execute investment strategies aligned with business growth objectives
- Provide strategic insights on new sectors, including data centers and digital infrastructure
M&A & Transactions
- Lead end-to-end M&A transactions, including deal sourcing, structuring, negotiation, and execution
- Oversee commercial, financial, and legal due diligence processes
- Manage external advisors and coordinate cross-functional deal teams
Project Finance
- Structure and execute project finance transactions, including debt and equity financing
- Lead engagement with lenders, investors, and financial institutions
- Oversee financial closing, documentation, and risk management
Financial Modelling & Investment Analysis
- Review and oversee complex financial models (DCF, IRR, NPV, sensitivities)
- Provide investment recommendations to senior management and investment committees
- Ensure robust investment evaluation and risk mitigation frameworks
Fund Management / Capital Raising (if applicable)
- Manage relationships with institutional investors and stakeholders
- Contribute to portfolio management and asset performance monitoring
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Lead and develop the investment team
- Collaborate with internal functions (development, technical, legal, asset management)
- Build and maintain strong relationships with partners, developers, and investors in Japan
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Engineering, Economics or related field
- 10+ years of experience in investment, M&A, project finance, or infrastructure finance
- Strong track record in renewable energy or infrastructure transactions
- Deep understanding of financial modelling and investment analysis
- Proven experience in project finance structures and deal execution
- Experience in fund management or capital raising is a strong advantage
- Exposure or interest in data center / digital infrastructure investments is highly desirable
- Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills
- Fluent in Japanese and English (written and spoken)
