Position Overview
An established architectural and engineering firm is seeking an experienced Assistant Land Surveyor / Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) to support and lead surveying operations based in the El Paso office. This role is ideal for a licensed surveyor with a strong technical background, leadership experience, and a collaborative mindset.
The selected candidate will manage survey teams, oversee field and office operations, and provide technical and project leadership across a variety of surveying services, including boundary, topographic, construction, and platting work.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support a team of senior Survey Party Chiefs and field staff
- Provide project management and technical oversight for:
- Boundary surveys
- Topographic surveys (ground and drone-based)
- ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys
- Construction staking
- Platting and mapping services
- Manage and maintain survey equipment and technology, including:
- Drones and scanners
- GPS and robotic total stations
- Digital levels and data collectors
- Survey software such as Trimble Business Center
- Oversee CAD drafting efforts related to survey plats and drawings
- Prepare, review, and finalize plats for public and private sector clients
- Download, process, and manage field data from survey crews
- Supervise drone-based orthomosaic imagery and survey deliverables
- Mentor, train, and provide quality control guidance to survey staff
- Ensure safe operation and maintenance of survey vehicles, tools, and equipment
- Assist with preparation of survey drawings using AutoCAD, as needed
- Perform additional duties consistent with the role and experience level

- Support quality management initiatives and ensure adherence to QC procedures
- Contribute to successful project delivery through thoughtful planning and execution
- Complete assignments on schedule, within budget, and at a high level of quality
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency
- Effectively plan, coordinate, and lead survey-related project tasks

Qualifications
- Texas Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license required
- Minimum of 5 years of experience post-licensure
- Associate's degree or equivalent surveying education
- Strong working knowledge of land surveying principles and practices
- Experience managing survey crews performing boundary, topo, and construction staking
- Proficiency with:
- Trimble robotic total stations, GPS equipment, and data collectors
- Trimble Business Center
- Autodesk Civil 3D and AutoCAD
- Microsoft Office applications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Valid driver's license
- Highly motivated with the ability to work effectively in a team environment

Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of desk work and computer use
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds of equipment
- Ability to walk on uneven terrain and navigate steep slopes
- May work outdoors in extreme weather conditions
- Ability to bend, squat, dig, stake, and set monuments
- Use of brush-cutting equipment
- Driving company vehicles to job sites
