Preconstruction Manager (Solar)
Full-Time | Indianapolis, IN (Travel Required)
A growing renewable energy company is seeking a Preconstruction Manager to support the development of commercial solar and energy storage projects across the Midwest.
This role plays a key part in setting projects up for success, leading efforts from early-stage development through construction handoff. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction, solar, or electrical preconstruction, with experience in budgeting, design coordination, and subcontractor management.
This position is based in Indianapolis, IN with travel throughout Indiana and Illinois.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead preconstruction activities from project concept through construction handoff
- Conduct site walks to assess conditions, electrical systems, and constructability
- Coordinate with internal teams and external engineers on system design and project scope
- Develop project budgets and cost estimates at multiple stages
- Build bid packages, define scopes of work, and manage subcontractor bidding processes
- Draft preliminary project schedules and identify potential risks
- Lead constructability reviews with internal stakeholders
- Support PV layouts, energy modeling, and production estimates alongside design teams
- Assist with utility interconnection applications and permitting
- Support proposal development and participate in client-facing discussions
- Prepare technical documentation for contracts and project execution
- Maintain relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and project partners
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in preconstruction, project development, or construction management
- Background in solar, electrical, or commercial construction preferred
- Strong understanding of project budgeting, estimating, and scheduling
- Familiarity with permitting and utility interconnection processes
- Experience coordinating with subcontractors, engineers, and internal teams
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project management tools
- Self-starter with a hands-on, team-oriented approach
Work Environment
- Combination of office and active job site work
- Travel to project sites required
- Ability to work in varying construction environments and conditions
