Position Summary
A respected regional engineering consulting firm is seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to lead and expand its geotechnical engineering practice in Evansville, Indiana.
This is a senior leadership role for an experienced geotechnical professional who brings strong technical expertise, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to guide teams while contributing directly to project execution. The Principal Geotechnical Engineer will serve as a technical authority, client advisor, and growth leader for geotechnical services across southwestern Indiana and adjacent markets.

Key Responsibilities
Geotechnical Practice Leadership
- Lead the technical direction and growth of the geotechnical engineering practice in the Evansville region.
- Serve as Principal‑in‑Charge on geotechnical projects, overseeing scope, schedules, budgets, and technical quality.
- Act as a senior technical resource on complex subsurface investigations, foundation design, slope stability, and construction support services.
Technical Oversight & Quality
- Provide technical review and guidance for geotechnical reports, recommendations, and design deliverables.
- Ensure consistent application of engineering judgment, applicable codes, and industry best practices.
- Support risk management efforts, contract reviews, and coordination with civil, structural, and environmental teams.
Team Development & Mentorship
- Mentor and develop geotechnical engineers, project managers, and field staff.
- Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and training of geotechnical personnel as the practice grows.
- Promote knowledge sharing, technical rigor, and professional development across project teams.
Business Development & Client Engagement
- Maintain and strengthen relationships with municipal, transportation, utility, and private‑sector clients.
- Support proposal development, scope definition, and client interviews for geotechnical work.
- Collaborate with leadership to expand geotechnical services into new markets and project types.
Operational & Financial Leadership
- Partner with leadership on staffing plans, workload forecasting, and utilization management.
- Monitor project financial performance and contribute to sustainable growth strategies.
- Participate in broader operational planning and leadership initiatives.
Qualifications
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) required; geotechnical specialization preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in geotechnical or civil engineering consulting.
- Demonstrated experience leading geotechnical projects and managing client relationships.
- Strong technical expertise in subsurface investigations, foundation design, earthwork, and construction support.
- Proven ability to mentor engineers and collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience working within a regional or multi‑office consulting environment preferred.
