Remote Senior Controls Estimator - Mission Critical
Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Controls Estimator to lead the estimating efforts for complex, large-scale data center projects exceeding $10 million. This role requires deep expertise in building automation systems (BAS), HVAC controls, and mission-critical infrastructure, with a strong understanding of cost drivers, vendor relationships, and project phasing in high-performance environments. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a proven track record in delivering accurate, competitive, and timely estimates for large-scale controls packages.
Key Responsibilities:
Estimating & Proposal Development
- Lead the preparation of detailed cost estimates for BAS and controls systems on data center projects.
- Analyze project specifications, drawings, and RFPs to determine scope, materials, labor, and equipment requirements.
- Develop and maintain pricing models and cost databases for large-scale controls systems.
Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination
- Solicit and evaluate bids from controls vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key industry partners to ensure competitive pricing and reliable delivery.
Project Strategy & Risk Management
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and executives to develop bid strategies and value engineering options.
- Identify project risks and opportunities related to scope, schedule, and cost.
Technical Expertise
- Interpret complex BAS designs, network architecture, and integration requirements.
- Stay current with emerging technologies, platforms (e.g., Niagara, Siemens, Schneider), and industry best practices.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Mentor junior estimators and contribute to the development of standardized estimating tools and processes.
- Participate in client meetings, presentations, and design-assist efforts as needed.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience: Minimum 8-10 years in BAS or controls estimating, with at least 5 years focused on data center or mission-critical environments.
- Project Experience: Demonstrated success estimating controls packages for projects exceeding $10 million in value.
