Overview
We are seeking a strategic and experienced Roadway Department Manager to lead a growing transportation team in Cincinnati, Ohio. This role will oversee roadway design and infrastructure projects, manage staff, and drive business development efforts while ensuring high-quality project delivery across DOT and municipal clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the roadway engineering department, including staffing, mentoring, and performance management
- Oversee the planning, design, and delivery of roadway and transportation infrastructure projects
- Manage project budgets, schedules, and resource allocation across multiple active projects
- Serve as a key point of contact for clients, including state DOTs, municipalities, and local agencies
- Drive business development efforts, including proposal preparation, client relationships, and project pursuits
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards, including ODOT design criteria and local regulations
- Provide technical guidance and quality control review of roadway design plans and reports
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including traffic, structures, survey, and environmental groups
- Identify growth opportunities and support strategic expansion of the transportation practice
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required; Master's degree preferred
- 10+ years of experience in roadway design and project management
- Proven leadership experience managing teams and complex infrastructure projects
- Strong background in DOT (ODOT preferred) and municipal roadway projects
- Experience with roadway design software (e.g., MicroStation, OpenRoads, Civil 3D)
- Demonstrated success in client management and business development
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Certifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus
