Safety Manager (Rail)

Position Summary:

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Rail Safety Manager to lead safety initiatives and ensure compliance across all phases of rail infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have direct experience working with NYCT (New York City Transit)/NYCTA (New York City Transit Authority), or LIRR (Long Island Rail Road) and a deep understanding of transit safety protocols, regulatory requirements, and field operations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and oversee site-specific safety plans for rail construction projects.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations, including MTA and FRA standards.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
  • Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses; prepare detailed reports and corrective action plans.
  • Deliver safety training and toolbox talks to field personnel and subcontractors.
  • Collaborate with project teams to integrate safety into planning and execution.
  • Maintain accurate safety documentation and reporting for internal and client use.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for safety-related matters with NYCT, NYCTA, or LIRR representatives.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of safety management experience in rail or heavy civil construction, with at least 2 years of direct experience on NYCT, NYCTA, or LIRR projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations, MTA safety protocols, and transit construction environments.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence safety culture.
  • Experience conducting safety training and managing incident response.
  • Proficiency in safety management software and reporting tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • OSHA 30 Certification (Required); CHST, CSP, or other safety credentials (Preferred)
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field
  • Familiarity with union labor environments and safety coordination
  • Experience with environmental compliance and emergency preparedness
