Senior Controls Engineer - Data Center
We are seeking a highly skilled Controls Engineer with deep expertise in Inductive Automation Ignition (Perspective Module) to design, develop, and deploy advanced SCADA/HMI solutions for mission-critical data center environments. This role will focus on delivering high-performance visualization and control systems for EPMS/BMS/DCIM applications, supporting large-scale hyperscale and colocation facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Ignition Development (Primary Focus)
- Design, develop, and deploy Ignition Perspective applications for web-based SCADA and visualization platforms
- Build intuitive, responsive HMI dashboards tailored for data center operations teams
- Develop custom views, components, and templates within Ignition Perspective
- Implement role-based access, security, and multi-site navigation structures
- Optimize UI/UX for performance, scalability, and real-time data visualization
Data Center Controls & Integration
- Integrate Ignition with EPMS, BMS, and DCIM systems across data center portfolios
- Interface with systems such as:
- UPS systems (Schneider, Vertiv, Eaton)
- Switchgear and power monitoring systems
- CRAC/CRAH units and HVAC systems
- Develop and manage communication with field devices via:
- BACnet, Modbus (TCP/RTU), OPC UA, MQTT
Programming & System Architecture
- Develop backend logic using Ignition scripting (Python/Jython)
- Configure tag structures, alarm pipelines, and historian databases
- Design scalable architectures for multi-site deployments and enterprise monitoring
- Support edge-to-cloud data strategies using MQTT and Ignition Edge
Commissioning & Deployment
- Support system commissioning, testing, and validation in live data center environments
- Troubleshoot and resolve integration issues between hardware, PLCs, and SCADA systems
- Work closely with electrical and mechanical teams during system startup
Collaboration & Client Engagement
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to define system requirements
- Provide technical guidance and support during project lifecycle
- Occasionally interface with end clients (hyperscalers, colocation providers)
Required Skills & Experience
Technical Skills
- Strong experience with Inductive Automation Ignition Platform (mandatory)
- Deep expertise in Ignition Perspective module
- Experience with data center control systems (EPMS/BMS/DCIM)
- Proficiency in industrial protocols:
- BACnet, Modbus, OPC UA, MQTT
- Strong scripting skills (Python/Jython within Ignition)
- Experience with databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL)
Controls & Systems Knowledge
- Understanding of electrical power systems in data centers (critical power, redundancy models)
- Familiarity with PLCs and controllers (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider)
- Knowledge of alarming, trending, and historian configuration
Preferred Experience
- Experience working on hyperscale data center projects
- Familiarity with:
- Ignition Enterprise Administration Module (EAM)
- Cloud integrations (Azure, AWS IoT, etc.)
- Exposure to cybersecurity best practices for OT environments
- Previous involvement in mission-critical infrastructure projects

Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field (preferred)
- Equivalent hands-on experience will also be considered
