Senior Fuel Equipment Design Engineer
Position Overview
A well‑established energy and power services organization is seeking a Senior Fuel Equipment Design Engineer to support the design, execution, and commissioning of natural gas fuel systems and combustion equipment for industrial and electric utility boiler applications.
This is a fully on‑site position based out of one of several U.S. engineering offices and is intended for a hands‑on, senior‑level engineer who wants to stay close to detailed design, equipment selection, and field execution.
The role focuses on gas‑fired, low‑NOx combustion systems used in wall‑fired and T‑fired boilers and involves close collaboration with project management, field services, and clients.

This position requires on‑site presence; remote or hybrid arrangements are not available.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the lead design engineer for natural gas delivery and combustion systems on multiple projects
- Develop and maintain Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for complete fuel gas systems
- Design, specify, and select equipment including gas filtration, heating, pressure regulation, flow control, burners, and auxiliary systems
- Execute fuel system and combustion scope from contract award through commissioning and acceptance testing
- Support proposal and pre‑award activities, including technical input, customer discussions, and cost estimates
- Author field test procedures and reports and support on‑site commissioning, startup, and emissions optimization activities
- Help develop and maintain engineering standards for system sizing and performance prediction
- Interface with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure designs meet code, performance, and contractual requirements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (Master's degree preferred)
- 8+ years of experience in fuel gas system and/or combustion system design within industrial or utility power environments
- Demonstrated experience with natural gas delivery systems, including filtration, pressure reduction, heating, and flow control
- Strong working knowledge of ASME B31 piping codes, NFPA standards, and product application requirements
- Professional Engineer (PE) license - Required
- Willingness and ability to travel as required in support of field activities (valid passport required)
Preferred Experience
- Experience supporting field startup, commissioning, and operational troubleshooting
- Exposure to Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis
- Prior involvement with emissions optimization or acceptance testing programs
Compensation
- Base salary range: $106,750 - $180,000, depending on experience, credentials, and location
