Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Landscape Architect to join our team in Tucson. This role requires strong technical design skills, proven project leadership, and a deep understanding of both public-sector and private development project environments. The ideal candidate will bring 10-20 years of experience, hold an active Arizona Landscape Architect license, and have the ability to lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects from concept through construction.

This position plays a key role in client engagement, team mentorship, and delivering projects that enhance the built environment throughout Southern Arizona.


Key Responsibilities

Design & Technical Leadership

  • Lead the planning, design, and documentation of landscape architecture projects including parks, civic facilities, streetscapes, commercial developments, mixed-use sites, and residential communities.
  • Develop site layouts, grading concepts, planting and irrigation plans, and technical details appropriate for the Sonoran Desert climate.
  • Ensure design solutions meet regulatory requirements, project budgets, and sustainability goals.

Project & Client Management

  • Manage multiple concurrent projects, including schedules, budgets, scopes, and quality control.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for municipal, county, and state clients as well as private developers.
  • Prepare proposals, fee estimates, and responses to RFPs/RFQs for public- and private-sector opportunities.

Public Works Expertise

  • Lead or support projects such as parks, trails, complete streets, transit corridors, streetscapes, stormwater/green infrastructure, and other civic improvements.
  • Interpret and apply agency standards, zoning requirements, and ADA accessibility guidelines.
  • Coordinate with engineers, architects, planners, environmental scientists, and other internal/external partners.

Team Leadership & Mentorship

  • Provide guidance, direction, and mentoring to junior landscape architects, designers, and production staff.
  • Review construction documents, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Support construction-phase services including submittal review and site visits.

Required Qualifications

  • Licensed Landscape Architect in Arizona (PLA).
  • 10-20 years of professional experience in landscape architecture.
  • Strong background in public works, including experience with municipalities, counties, or state agencies.
  • Experience in private development, including commercial, mixed-use, institutional, or residential projects.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Creative Suite; familiarity with SketchUp, GIS, Civil3D, or Revit a plus.
  • Excellent communication, writing, and organizational skills.
