Senior Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineer
Position Overview
A well-established consulting engineering firm with offices in New York and Connecticut is seeking an experienced Plumbing/Fire Protection Engineer to join its New York City team. This is a full-time opportunity to work on a wide range of high-profile projects, including museums, academic institutions, performance centers, collaborative workspaces, and luxury residences.
The ideal candidate will bring deep technical knowledge in plumbing and fire protection systems, a collaborative mindset, and a passion for innovative and sustainable design.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop design standards and documentation for plumbing and fire protection systems, including drawings, specifications, hydraulic calculations, and code analysis.
- Conduct field surveys and support construction administration by reviewing system installations.
- Review architectural and engineering documents for code compliance and coordination.
- Research and interpret local and national codes, including NFPA standards.
- Design plumbing systems such as domestic water heating plants, backflow preventers, and medical gas systems.
- Design fire protection systems including fire pumps, sprinkler layouts, and hydraulic calculations.
- Participate in project meetings with architects, engineers, construction managers, and clients to coordinate system layouts and space planning.
Qualifications
- 10-15 years of experience in plumbing and fire protection design within the building systems industry.
- Strong understanding of applicable codes and standards, including NFPA 13.
- Proficiency in Autodesk Revit MEP, AutoCAD MEP, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills.
