Staff Transmission Line Engineer - Overhead (Houston or Austin)
An employee-owned engineering consulting firm is seeking a Staff Transmission Engineer to support and lead overhead transmission line projects ranging from 69kV to 500kV. This role will provide technical leadership on transmission design efforts, mentor junior engineers, perform design and quality reviews, and collaborate closely with project managers and clients to ensure successful project execution.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership for overhead transmission line design projects.
- Perform transmission line design and analysis using sound engineering judgment.
- Mentor and support the development of junior engineering staff.
- Conduct quality reviews of engineering deliverables.
- Identify and communicate scope changes, technical risks, and project concerns.
- Support project scheduling and budget awareness throughout project execution.
- Develop and improve engineering processes, tools, and workflows to increase efficiency.
- Assist with internal training and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams and external clients.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts across the transmission engineering group.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field from an ABET-accredited program.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of transmission line engineering experience.
- Experience within a consulting engineering environment preferred.
- Knowledge of overhead transmission line design principles and industry standards.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Analytical problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and applicable engineering software.
Preferred Skills:
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
- Experience with tools such as PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, RISA-3D, AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil 3D, Revit, MathCAD, or similar engineering software.
- Experience supporting transmission projects for utilities, developers, or engineering consulting firms.
