Substation Engineering Supervisor (Remote)
I am seeking a highly experienced and client-focused Substation Engineering Supervisor to lead a multidisciplinary team in the design and delivery of high-voltage substation projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both Physical and Protection & Control engineering, a current PE license, and a proven track record of managing complex projects and client relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Supervision:
- Lead and mentor a team of substation engineers and designers across physical and P&C disciplines.
- Oversee project execution to ensure technical accuracy, quality, and compliance with industry standards and client requirements.
- Manage workload distribution, performance reviews, and staff development.
Technical Oversight:
- Provide expert-level guidance on substation physical layout, grounding, equipment specifications, and bus configurations.
- Review and approve protection and control schemes, relay settings, SCADA integration, and communication protocols.
- Ensure adherence to NESC, IEEE, NERC, and utility-specific standards.
Project Management:
- Coordinate with project managers to develop scopes, schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
- Monitor project progress and proactively address risks and issues.
- Support proposal development and technical writing for new business opportunities.
Client Engagement:
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for key clients.
- Lead client meetings, presentations, and design reviews.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships to ensure satisfaction and repeat business.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's preferred).
- 10-12 years of progressive experience in substation engineering, with a mix of physical and P&C design.
- Active PE license (required).
- Demonstrated experience in leading engineering teams and managing client-facing responsibilities.
- Proficiency in engineering software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, ETAP, ASPEN, or similar.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with utility clients or EPC firms.
- Familiarity with digital substations and IEC 61850.
- PMP certification or formal project management training is a plus.
