Role Overview
The Technical Lead - Solar Tracker Engineering will play a key role in leading tracker system design, localisation, and technical support for utility-scale solar projects in India and the wider region. This position will act as the technical authority for tracker design, working closely with product, manufacturing, project delivery, and commercial teams to ensure robust, cost-effective, and bankable solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering design and technical development of solar tracker systems tailored to Indian weather, soil, seismic, and wind conditions.
- Oversee structural, mechanical, and system design, including layout optimisation, foundations, torque tube, drive mechanisms, and control interfaces.
- Act as the primary technical interface for EPCs, IPPs, consultants, and internal stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Review and approve engineering calculations, drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation.
- Support site-specific design adaptation, addressing challenges related to terrain, wind load, corrosion, and local codes.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and supply chain teams to ensure design for manufacturability and cost optimisation.
- Contribute to new product development and continuous improvement initiatives based on field performance and client feedback.
- Provide technical training and guidance to local engineering and project teams as the India platform scales.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Structural, or Civil Engineering (or related discipline).
- 6-15 years of experience in solar tracker design, structural engineering, or utility-scale solar plant engineering.
- Strong hands-on expertise in single-axis solar tracker systems is highly preferred.
- Solid understanding of wind loading, structural analysis, foundation design, and fatigue considerations for solar trackers.
- Proficiency in engineering tools and software (e.g. AutoCAD, SolidWorks, STAAD / similar structural tools).
- Experience working with EPCs, developers, or equipment manufacturers in India or similar markets.
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment with cross-cultural teams.
- Strong communication skills and comfort engaging with both technical and commercial stakeholders.
