Our client is a global developer, owner-operator, and service provider of data centers is seeking a Utilities Director to support its rapidly growing portfolio. The company specializes in delivering complex data center capacity solutions for some of the world's largest technology organizations and is committed to innovation, scalability, and operational excellence.

The Role
The Utilities Director will lead engagement with utilities across North, Central, and South America, overseeing utilities due diligence and developing infrastructure strategies for potential data center sites. This role will collaborate closely with internal teams including Development, Engineering, Capital Projects, Legal, Commercial, Asset Management, and Operations to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of utility connections.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development of the company's growth strategy, focusing on site acquisition for data center development.
  • Manage utilities due diligence and apply a risk-based approach to investments.
  • Define infrastructure delivery scope, obtain quotes, perform cost analysis, and support project approval processes.
  • Lead negotiation and execution of utility connection agreements and coordinate with project teams to deliver connections.
  • Build and maintain relationships with utilities, municipalities, landowners, and other stakeholders to enable project success.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction, Business, or related field.
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience working with or for utilities in the Americas region.
  • Prior experience in data center development is required.
  • At least 5 years of experience in construction or project management within the utility sector.
  • Strong commercial acumen for reviewing utility tariffs and connection agreements.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment and work cross-functionally.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree (MBA/MS) preferred.
  • PMP certification or equivalent project management training.
  • Spanish language skills are a plus.
  • Familiarity with IT infrastructure, data centers, and cloud services.
