Our client is a rapidly growing Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) company backed by leading global infrastructure and technology investors. The company is developing next-generation energy storage solutions designed to support the accelerating transition to renewable energy and grid decarbonisation.

With strong financial backing, a proven technology platform, and significant manufacturing scale-up plans, the business is entering an exciting phase of commercial growth across key international markets. Europe represents one of the company's highest strategic priorities, and they are seeking an entrepreneurial commercial leader to drive market expansion and establish a strong regional presence.

We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven Sales Director / Head of Sales, Europe to spearhead the company's commercial growth strategy across Europe and the UK.

As the first dedicated commercial leader in the region, you will be responsible for building market presence, developing strategic customer relationships, establishing partnerships, and creating a robust sales pipeline. This role offers a unique opportunity to take ownership of market development from the ground up while working closely with executive leadership to shape the company's long-term commercial strategy.

The successful candidate will lead complex sales engagements with utilities, renewable energy developers, independent power producers, EPCs, system integrators, and large commercial and industrial customers seeking advanced energy storage solutions.

This is a high-impact leadership role for a commercially minded professional who thrives in fast-paced, high-growth environments and has a proven track record of scaling energy-related businesses across Europe.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Strategy & Business Development

  • Develop and execute the European go-to-market strategy aligned with the company's global growth objectives.

  • Identify, evaluate, and prioritise new business opportunities across key target markets.

  • Build and manage a high-quality sales pipeline through market engagement, industry networking, and strategic prospecting activities.

  • Drive customer acquisition efforts and establish a strong market presence across the region.

Sales Leadership

  • Lead the full sales cycle from opportunity identification through contract negotiation and deal closure.

  • Develop sales forecasts, revenue projections, and business plans to support aggressive growth targets.

  • Consistently achieve or exceed quarterly and annual sales objectives.

  • Support future team expansion and contribute to building a scalable commercial organisation as the business grows.

Customer & Partner Engagement

  • Establish trusted relationships with utilities, developers, IPPs, EPCs, system integrators, and large energy users.

  • Understand customer requirements and develop tailored commercial solutions that address specific market needs.

  • Identify and secure strategic partnerships that accelerate market penetration and revenue growth.

  • Represent the company at industry conferences, trade events, and executive-level customer engagements.

Contract Negotiation & Deal Execution

  • Lead complex commercial discussions and negotiations with sophisticated counterparties.

  • Structure commercial agreements that balance customer requirements with long-term business objectives.

  • Collaborate with legal, finance, operations, and technical teams to support successful project execution.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with engineering, product, operations, finance, and deployment teams to ensure successful customer outcomes.

  • Provide market intelligence and customer feedback to support product development and strategic planning.

  • Serve as the voice of the customer internally while ensuring commercial opportunities remain executable and profitable.

Market Intelligence

  • Monitor energy storage market developments, competitor activities, policy changes, and regulatory trends.

  • Stay up to date with evolving electricity markets, ancillary services markets, and energy storage applications across Europe.

  • Identify emerging market opportunities and recommend commercially viable growth initiatives.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Energy, Economics, or a related discipline.

  • MBA or advanced technical qualification is advantageous.

  • 10+ years of progressive commercial, sales, business development, or market development experience within the energy sector.

  • Strong experience selling into European electricity markets.

  • Demonstrated success managing complex, multi-stakeholder sales cycles with long development timelines.

  • Proven track record of originating and closing strategic energy or infrastructure-related transactions.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working within a high-growth or venture-backed organisation.

  • Strong understanding of energy storage applications and European power market structures.

  • Experience engaging with utilities, developers, regulators, and large energy consumers.

  • Commercial responsibility including revenue ownership, P&L exposure, or regional business leadership.
